Survey: 74% of Indonesian People Believe AI Can Enrich Art and Creativity

The existence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the creation of art, such as films and media, visual art, music, as well as literature and creative writing, often leads to a dilemma. Indeed, many people believe that AI can replace the role of artists in producing a work. However, this assumption has been refuted.

According to the Indonesia AI Report 2025 released by Populix, the current era of art has been greatly influenced by the presence of AI. Film and media have become one of the artistic fields most strongly influenced by AI in its process.

Seventy-five percent of visual art is influenced by AI. Fifty-six percent of the public also assess that music art has been significantly influenced by AI in its production.

This data was obtained from a surveyx Populix using a mixed-method design with a combination of quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews conducted online.

The online survey involved 1,000 respondents with a location distribution of 50% from Jabodetabek and 50% from other urban cities such as Surabaya, Medan, Makassar, Denpasar, and Balikpapan.

Respondents have a minimum educational background of SMA/SMK to S2, with a 50:50 gender ratio. Regarding age, the composition of respondents consists of 50% Gen Z (18-28 years old) and 50% Millennials (29-44 years old).

In addition, 49 percent of the public still consider the creativity of AI-generated art not yet comparable to art created directly by humans. Nevertheless, 74 percent of the public are confident that the existence of AI is not to replace, but to enrich art and creativity.

Meanwhile, only 26 percent of the public admitted being unsure whether AI could enhance creativity in the process of creating an artwork. Nevertheless, 79 percent of Millennials and 77 percent of Generation Z see the presence of AI as a very significant tool, not to replace artists.

Meanwhile, 61 percent of Gen Z and 66 percent of the second largest role of AI in supporting art and culture is on the need to provide copyright protection regulations for human artists.

Then, 49 percent of Gen Z and 55 percent of Millennials see the role of AI also as a cultural heritage preservation. This is what makes the community optimistic about the existence of AI and the field of art and culture can complement each other.

According to Professor Suyanto, a professor of Artificial Intelligence and the Rector of Telkom University from 2025 to 2030, an artist who can collaborate with AI can help their creativity with high accuracy.

“To be the best entity in this era, humans must have high creativity and humanity, and be very proficient in AI so that they can collaborate with AI. If we can collaborate, then we will become a very creative and humanistic artist, as well as having high capacity and accuracy,” said Professor Suyanto, a Full Professor in the Field of Artificial Intelligence and Rector of Telkom University 2025-2030, to, Tuesday (10/30).

She gave an example of a composer who writes, creates, and composes songs without the help of AI. This creativity is very needed, as it is humanistic and full of emotion in creating works.

However, he said, the composer can use AI to measure whether his music is similar to thousands of other pieces of music created by humans before.

“Generally, it’s considered original if there is 40% similarity or plagiarism, as scientists in the music field say. However, with AI technology that has been trained on millions of songs, AI can detect that the music created by AI itself has less than 20% similarity or none at all. This can be measured using AI,” explained Prof. Suyanto.

According to Suyanto, AI can be precise and accurate, because it can be trained with millions of songs. Humans, with their brain capabilities, can only listen to and curate at most thousands of songs.

“It’s impossible for humans to remember millions, even billions of songs. That’s where a composer can collaborate with AI, creating new music that is very creative, humanistic, and accurately measurable in terms of similarity or plagiarism, with high accuracy and capacity,” he emphasized.
