BMKG: Inaeews Telegram Account Fake and Illegal

BMKG warning against illegal telegram accounts imitating official identity
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reminded the public to remain vigilant against various groups, canals, and accounts on the Telegram platform that uses the official identity of the Indonesian Earthquake Early Warning System (INAEEWS) BMKG illegally. These accounts use the name, logo, and visual attributes of the BMKG without permission, thus causing confusion among the public.
According to BMKG’s Deputy for Geophysics, Nelly Florida Riama, the INAEEWS system is still in the development stage and limited trial. Currently, the system has not been officially launched to the wider public. Therefore, information on earthquake early warnings spread by these accounts cannot be justified.
Abuse of visual attributes and false information
Plt. Director of Seismology of Engineering, Potential Geophysics, and BMKG Time Mark Fachri Radjab explained that the illegal account deliberately imitated the identity and visual attributes of INAEEWS and BMKG. Through this platform, certain parties falsify information to build public trust illegally.
In addition, these individuals misuse INAEEWS real-time data by taking and re-distributing early warning information illegally without official permission from the BMKG. BMKG confirmed that all early warning information on the telegram channel was disinformation.
the dangers of false information
Fachri emphasized that until now, INAEEWS has never collaborated with any party in disseminating information on earthquake early warnings. In addition, the institution officially ensures that it never charges or provides paid early warning services. People are asked to ignore any requests for fees in any form.
The actions of individuals who manage these illegal accounts not only undermine the credibility of the BMKG as the only authorized governmental institution, but also endanger public safety through false information.
How to get accurate information
BMKG appealed to the public to only refer to the official BMKG communication channel. Some of the channels that can be used include:
- InfoBMKG application
- verified social media page
- official sitewww.bmkg.go.id

By referring to these official channels, the public can obtain accurate and official seismic information. BMKG continues to strive to provide the best service to the community, and maintain the credibility of the institution in providing information about weather, climate, and geophysics.
preventive measures and public education
To prevent the spread of false information, BMKG will also continue to educate the public about the importance of identifying valid sources of information. With high public awareness, it is hoped that it can minimize the risks arising from information that is not clear.
BMKG will also improve coordination with related parties, such as digital platforms and broadcasting institutions, so that they can immediately handle and delete incorrect information. With these steps, BMKG is committed to maintaining the security and comfort of the community in dealing with the threat of natural disasters.
