Hybrid Car Sales Soar in the Midst of Market Drop 2025

Hybrid Car Sales Trend in Indonesia First Half 2025

In the midst of the decline in people’s purchasing power that is still happening, the hybrid car market in Indonesia still shows positive growth. Data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) shows that sales of Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) in the first half of 2025 reached 28,398 units. This figure increased by about 10 percent compared to the same period in the previous year, which was 25,791 units.

This increase shows that hybrid cars are still an attractive option for people who want to switch to environmentally friendly vehicles without having to rely entirely on charging infrastructure. Although overall sales of national four-wheeled cars decreased by 8.6 percent during the January–June 2025 period, from 410,020 units to 374,740 units, hybrid cars still showed resistance.

Hybrid Market Main Player

Toyota Kijang Innova Zenix HEV is still a model that dominates the national hybrid market with sales of 12,990 units, or contributing 45.7 percent of total sales. This figure increased significantly compared to the achievement in the first half of last year, which recorded 10,074 units. This strengthens the position of the Innova Zenix HEV as the best-selling hybrid model in the country.

Meanwhile, the Suzuki XL7 Hybrid is in second place with sales of 4,684 units. Although slightly down compared to the achievement in the first half of 2024, which recorded 4,943 units, Suzuki remained aggressive in expanding the hybrid market. Several new models such as the Fronx Hybrid and Grand Vitara managed to record sales of 1,449 units and 1,212 units, respectively.

Another model that also recorded good sales was the Suzuki Ertiga Hybrid, which was recorded at 1,168 units. Although this figure is lower than 2,391 units in the previous year, Suzuki still shows its commitment to providing hybrid options to consumers.

Market expansion by Toyota and other brands

Toyota is also increasingly active in expanding the hybrid market, especially in the SUV and crossover segments. The Yaris Cross HEV recorded sales of 1,523 units, making it one of the new flagship models in the urban crossover hybrid segment. In addition, the trend of hybrid SUVs is increasingly in demand, as can be seen from the contribution of the Hyundai Santa Fe HEV which sold 1,109 units and the Palisade HEV as many as 386 units.

Premium brands such as Lexus still maintain the market niche through models such as the LM, RX 350H, to the LBX HEV. In the large SUV class, the presence of the GWM Tank Series and Haval Jolion shows that Chinese brands are starting to feel the hybrid segment, even though the volume is still relatively small.
