An elementary school boy from Boyolali Regency, Central Java, named Ibrahim Al Abrar, won an award from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). He is known as a student who has a strong interest in technology and cyber security. The discovery of a security gap in the NASA system earned him appreciation from the world’s largest space agency.
Ibrahim, who is currently in grade 6 of the 3 Genengsari State Elementary School, Kemusu District, Boyolali Regency, managed to find a type of vulnerability Broken link hijacking. Ibrahim’s learning journey
The beginning of Ibrahim’s interest in the world of programming and cyber security started from self-taught since the 4th grade of elementary school. His father, Aminudin, a Computer and Network Engineering (TKJ) teacher at SMK Negeri Kemusu, gave full support to his son. Ibrahim utilizes tutorial videos on YouTube and also uses artificial intelligence (AI) to deepen his understanding.
At first, Ibrahim only learned through mobile phones. However, because the phone screen is too small for programming, parents buy it a used mini PC at a price of Rp. 2 million. With the tool, he began to look for security loopholes on various websites, including NASA.
The process of finding security loopholes
Ibrahim’s findings did not immediately produce results. he had to go through several attempts before reports about Broken link hijacking received through the program Vulnerability Disclosure Policy (VDP) NASA. Several previous reports were rejected or considered duplicate.
It was only in the third attempt that Ibrahim managed to find a security gap that had never been reported before. The findings were then accepted by NASA and answered with Letter of Recognition (LOR) with the official NASA logo. This LOR is a form of appreciation for Ibrahim’s contribution in improving the security of digital systems.

“The process is not easy. I have sent reports several times. Some have been rejected, some are considered duplicates,” said Aminudin. Even so, the support from parents and online friends kept Ibrahim enthusiastic and finally succeeded.
