Iphone Style, Klaten Student Escapes After Rent IDR 7 Million

Student in Klaten is threatened with legal problems after not returning the rented iPhone

A student from Klaten is currently faced with the threat of legal problems after renting two iPhone units but never returned them. In fact, he had time to run away and eliminate traces for some time. Although the goods can finally be returned, the rent that should have been paid has not been received.

This incident began when the student came to the iPhone rental shop owned by Gery Setiawan (21) in Boyolali. Initially, he only rented one iPhone 11 unit with a daily payment system. In the early days of the rental, all transactions went smoothly. Payments are made on time, he even rents for a week to two weeks without any problems.

However, the incident changed when the student again rented two iPhone units at once, namely the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. After a few days, communication between the tenant and the shop owner began to be disrupted. Finally, the relationship was completely cut off. According to Gery, the student once gave the reason that her sister had an accident, but after that she could not be contacted again. All the phone numbers owned by Gery were blocked by the perpetrator.

Gery then looked for the whereabouts of the tenant and found that he was in the Ngemplak area. He immediately came to the location to confirm the presence of the rented goods. However, when he arrived at the location, Gery did not meet the student directly. He only met his grandmother and sister. Both denied owning or knowing the whereabouts of the rented iPhone.

Even though the iPhone is finally able to be returned, Gery still faces a big problem, namely the arrears of rent. The total amount to be paid is around Rp. 7 million for two months. Gery explained that the student rented for two months and never paid the rent. The reason is only “tomorrow” without any real action.

Until now, Gery has not made an official report to the police because it is still in the process of collecting evidence. He also said that there may still be other victims from the same tenant. Gery and his colleagues are preparing to report the case along with other victims who may be affected similarly.

According to Gery, this is the worst experience since he opened an iPhone rental business at the end of December 2023. Previously, if there was a similar problem, the tenant’s family was always responsible for compensating the loss. But this time, the tenant completely lost track.

This case is a warning for electronic rental business actors to be more vigilant in choosing tenants. In addition, people also need to be more careful in renting high-value goods so as not to get caught in a situation like this.
