Yogyakarta —PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) sets new rules regarding the carrying and use of powerbanks in trains.
This policy is taken as a preventive measure to maintain the safety, security and comfort of all passengers during the trip.
Public Relations Manager of Daop 6 Yogyakarta, Feni Novida Saragih, explained that the power bank is indeed an important need for passengers to charge electronic devices such as cellphones and tablets.
However, he reminded that the use and storage of powerbanks that are not up to standard can pose a fire risk.
“The determination of this new regulation aims to mitigate the potential dangers that can occur due to the use of power banks that are not up to standard. We invite all customers to be wiser and pay attention to the provisions that have been set,” said Feni, Thursday (10/23/2025).
In this regulation, passengers are still allowed to carry a power bank with a maximum capacity of 100 watt-hour (WH).
Meanwhile, a power bank with a capacity of between 100 and 160 Wh can only be brought if it has received permission from KAI officers.
The power bank with a capacity of more than 160 Wh is declared not allowed to enter the train.
Feni also appealed to passengers to ensure that the power bank is in good condition, not damaged, not bloated, and has a clear capacity label.
During the trip, passengers are allowed to use a power bank to charge personal devices such as cell phones, tablets, or earphones.
However, KAI prohibits passengers from recharging the powerbank through an outlet available on the train.
The outlet is only intended for devices with low power consumption such as cellphones, tablets, laptops, and earphones.
“This rule is in line with KAI’s efforts to increase safety awareness among customers.”
