Ojol Polemic: Cut 10% Commission or Increase Rates?
Demonstration of ojol drivers continues, demands for tariff increases and commission decreases are the focus
Thousands of online motorcycle taxi drivers (ojol) again demonstrated in Jakarta today, Monday (21/7/2025). They demanded the government to immediately take policies related to online transportation. One of the main demands is a decrease in the commission cut by the applicator from 10% to a larger driver. In addition, they also rejected the cheap promo system such as Argo Goceng and Multi-Order which were considered unfair.
The polemic of ojol and commission cut by the applicator has not found a solution. The government, especially the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub), is reviewing the demands of ojol partners. The Director General of Land Transportation (Dirjen Hubdat) of the Ministry of Transportation, Aan Suhanan, stated that the policy of revising the application fee discount will be regulated in conjunction with the regulation on the increase in ojol tariffs that are being discussed.
“The study that is a demand from the driver’s friends or partners, namely related to the demand for a 10% discount, we are also studying it, yes. So it becomes one unit, “explained Aan when met at the Ministry of Transportation.
In addition, the new regulation will also include a revenue-sharing structure between applicators and ojol driver partners. To create an ideal regulation, the Ministry of Transportation will conduct an in-depth and careful study. They will also appoint independent institutions to strengthen the information data in the study.
“We are still studying this, instead we use an independent institution to add this information data. Later we will discuss the results of this study with experts, with all, with all stakeholders, including partners, yes, driver partners,” said Aan.

Online transportation fares that are being studied will increase from 8% to 15%. The amount of this increase will vary according to the predetermined zone. Zone 1, 2, and 3 each have a different rate of increment.

Aan also ensured that the plan to raise the ojol tariff was final and obtained the applicator’s approval. However, his party will still conduct a final consultation with four applicators regarding the realization of the plan.
Tariff hike or commission deduction?
Spai chairman Lily Pujiastuti assessed that efforts to raise tariffs would not have a positive impact if the platform deduction was not lowered. According to him, the increase in tariffs will only benefit the applicator, not the driver.
“SPAI stated that the increase in tariffs will not have an impact on driver income if the platform deduction is not lowered,” said Lily.
Lily added that the platform snippet charged to drivers currently exceeds the maximum rule set by the government by 20%. The discount can reach 70%.
“We found a platform discount of up to 70%, when an ojol driver only gets Rp. 5,200 for food delivery, even though consumers pay Rp. 18,000 to the platform,” he added.
