Dark red color testing for iPhone 18 Pro
Apple is testing the red color option for the iPhone 18 Pro line which will be launched in September this year. Technology journalist Mark Gurman said that the company is currently exploring seriously the use of the “dark red” color variant for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max models. If it enters the final production stage, this dark red color will be the first time the Pro and Pro Max models are available in red. Previously, the red option last appeared on the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus in 2022.
The report explained that the color tested did not display a bright red hue, but rather resembled a burgundy. This approach is considered in line with the positioning of the pro line targeting the premium segment. The company’s flexibility in exploration of new color palettes on the pro line is driven by the transition of hard manufacturing materials. Apple is known to have changed production standards by using a unibody body made of aluminum in full since the launch of the iPhone 17 Pro.
This design exploration is also inseparable from the high consumer interest in the main markets. The cosmic orange color on the market today has proven to record a high level of demand, especially among Chinese consumers. “The red color is currently a new flagship color that is currently in the testing phase for the next generation of iPhone Pro devices,” Gurman said in a report.
The presence of red and orange options simultaneously has the potential to present a color challenge because the two tones are close to each other. However, the high sales figures for the orange variant make the company have the opportunity to maintain the old option while adding the red variant as an additional premium option.
On the other hand, market speculation had previously mentioned that Apple is also reviewing the purple and brown coating for the iPhone 18 Pro. However, Gurman dismissed the rumor by calling the options just a test variant of the same red idea, so it’s most likely not going to be marketed.
