New rules of electronic charging in trains

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) takes stricter steps in regulating the use of portable electronic devices, especially power banks, during train trips. This policy is implemented to prevent the risk of fire due to charging that is not up to standard, while maintaining the safety and comfort of passengers.

According to the Public Relations Manager of KAI Daop 1 Jakarta, Ixfan Hendriwintoko, this new policy is part of the socialization of the rules that aims to make passengers comply with applicable regulations. “If found to be in violation, it will be reminded,” he said.

IXFAN explained that the maximum capacity of the power bank that is allowed to be brought into the train is 100 Wh (watt-hour). Each device must have a clear capacity label, in good condition, and show no signs of damage or wear.

Passengers are expected to pay attention to this because the use of a power bank with a capacity that exceeds the limit can endanger safety. In addition, a power bank that is damaged or not in good condition is also prohibited from being brought into the train.

Prohibition of the use of sockets to charge the power bank

In addition to limiting capacity, KAI also prohibits passengers from using sockets on the train to charge the power bank. Sockets should only be used for low-power devices such as smartphones, tablets, laptops, or earphones.

KAI emphasized that charging the power bank through an outlet has the potential to increase the temperature of the device and pose a fire hazard that can interfere with travel safety. This is the main reason why the use of sockets for power banks is prohibited.
