Strengthening Digital Infrastructure, Tangsel Diskominfo Ready to Take Advantage of IPv6

South Tangerang City Government Wins the Best Digital Award in Indonesia
The South Tangerang City Government (Tangsel) has again shown its achievements in the field of digital transformation. Through the Department of Communication and Information (Diskominfo), the South Tangerang City Government won an award as the best local government in Indonesia in the implementation of Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6). This award was given by the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) at the IPv6 Enhanced Net 5.5G Conference in Jakarta.
Director of Telecommunications Komdigi, Aju Widya Sari said that this appreciation is a clear proof that South Tangerang is ready to face a surge in future connectivity. “We give high appreciation to the bold move of South Tangerang to migrate internet protocols while other areas are still fixated on the old protocol,” said Aju Widya.
Digital Excellence Mission and Network Infrastructure
Meanwhile, the Head of the South Tangerang City Diskominfo, Tubagus Asep Nurdin explained that this achievement was the result of the big “digital excellence” mission he carried. According to him, network infrastructure is the backbone of all public services. Without a capable protocol, the integration of electronic-based government systems (SPBE) will only become a discourse without strong carrying capacity.
Asep sees that digital sovereignty at the local level must start from the most basic foundation, namely the address of the internet protocol. “So far, the limitations of IPv4 have become a barrier to massive digital service expansion. With IPv6, we have not only increased capacity, but has opened the gate to wider innovation,” said Tubagus Asep in a press release.
Vision 2026: Reliable Digital Ecosystem
The mission of Diskominfo Tangsel in 2026 is to create a digital ecosystem that is not only advanced in features, but also architecturally reliable. To achieve this goal, the dual stack method (run IPv4 and IPv6 simultaneously) was chosen as a transition strategy so that all government application services remain stable without any disturbance (downtime) for the user community.
The implementation of IPv6 in Tangsel has a direct impact on the management of data centers (data centers) and city backbone networks. Asep explained that IPv6 offers an auto-configuration feature that makes it easy to manage network devices in large numbers. This is very crucial for Tangsel who is intensively developing the concept of an Internet of Things (IoT) smart city.
Cyber Security and City Government Commitment
In addition to the flexibility aspect, cyber security is the main point in Diskominfo’s latest mission. The IPv6 protocol has better integrated security features than its predecessor. This is in line with the commitment of the South Tangerang City Government to protect the personal data of residents who are connected to various public service platforms, ranging from population administration to an integrated licensing system.
Encouraging innovation in the OPD scope
In the future, this achievement is expected to be a lighter for all Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPD) within the South Tangerang City Government to continue to innovate. Tubagus Asep emphasized that the IPv6 technology that has been built will continue to be optimized to support the acceleration of inclusive digital transformation.
For the people of Tangsel, this achievement means the hope for public services that are faster, responsive, and rarely experienced disruption due to network capacity constraints. With the infrastructure that is now recognized as the best in Indonesia, Tangsel has positioned itself no longer as a follower of the flow of technology, but as a determinant of digital policy direction at the regional level.
“Our job is not finished. This award is the responsibility to continue to improve standards. We want to prove that with technology-visual leadership, local governments are able to provide world-class services for their citizens,” concluded Asep.
