Xiaomi Software Update: List of Phones That Don’t Get Android 16
Xiaomi has announced a software update roadmap for several of its product lines. This information shows that a number of devices will not receive a major update to the latest version of the Android operating system, namely Android 16. A total of 31 devices from the Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco brands are confirmed to only receive updates to Android 15.
This update is expected to apply to a number of models released in recent years. Even though it won’t get an update to Android 16, the device will still receive HyperOS 3 as the final interface. HyperOS 3 is the latest version of Xiaomi’s custom interface that offers various innovations and significant improvements.

Android 16 Development
Android 16 was released in the final version in June 2025. This operating system was first available on Google Pixel devices before being expanded to other brands. Android 16 brings a new design called Material 3 Expressive, which offers more expressive icons, typography, color palettes and animations.
Several new features are also present, such as Live Updates, a more concise notification system, desktop windowing mode for foldable devices and tablets, as well as increased security through Advanced Protection. With these various improvements, Android 16 is said to be one of the most important releases in recent years.
HyperOS 3: Xiaomi’s Latest Interface
HyperOS 3 was officially launched in China on August 28, 2025. This interface features a number of significant improvements, including new interface elements inspired by Apple’s liquid glass design. As the successor to HyperOS 2, HyperOS 3 brings innovations based on artificial intelligence (AI), such as the Screen Circle feature which is similar to Google’s “Circle to Search”.
With this feature, users can circle text or images on the screen to search for information, translate or share it directly. Apart from that, there is a new AI assistant called Super XiaoAI Assistant which is claimed to be able to understand screen context, for example recommending recipes when the user is looking at pictures of food.
HyperOS 3 also supports cross-platform file and photo sharing with Apple devices, and can even open the screen of a Xiaomi phone on a MacBook. Apple biometric integration such as Touch ID and Face ID is also available for Xiaomi devices running HyperOS 3.
On the design side, HyperOS 3 comes with a Super Island feature which resembles the iPhone’s Dynamic Island. The punch hole section on the screen will expand according to notifications from various applications, such as food order status, timer, music player, and alarm.
Apart from these innovations, HyperOS 3 also provides a new Control Center with more complete customization options, increased personalization, and smoother system performance so that the phone feels more responsive.
