A lot of violence, Roblox is blocked? This is the explanation of the Minister of Communication and Information, Meutya Hafid

The government has not made a decision to block Roblox

The Minister of Communication and Digital (Komdigi), Meutya Hafid, stated that the government has not yet made a decision to block Roblox’s online game. He emphasized that at this time his party was still waiting for the results of the evaluation from the Directorate General of Digital Space Supervision.

“There is no plan until there is an evaluation, there is the Director General of Digital Space Supervision. There has been no submission from the Director General, we will see,” said Meutya Hafid, Wednesday (6/8/2025). This statement came after the discourse on the blocking of Roblox’s game emerged, after a ban made by a relevant official.

The issue of violence in Roblox content

This issue arose after the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen), Abdul Mu’ti, made a statement regarding the use of roblox among students. When reviewing the School Free Health Check (CKG) activity at SDN Cideng 2, Central Jakarta, Monday (4/8/2025), Mu’ti stated that Roblox contains violent content that has the potential to be imitated by children.

“If you play with your cellphone, you can’t watch violence, there are fights there, there are bad words, don’t watch useless ones, okay. Now those who play blocks (roblox) don’t play that one, because that’s not good, right,” he said.

According to Mu’ti, elementary school-age children are still not able to distinguish between real and fabricated scenes, and at the same time are great imitators of the behavior they see.

Explanation from the Minister of State Secretary

In response to this, the Minister of State Secretary (Mensesneg), Prasetyo Hadi, explained that the prohibition was aimed at protecting the younger generation from the influence of violence.

“That’s not the case of Roblox. Whatever it is, we are trying to protect ourselves, our nation, especially the younger generations from the influences of violence,” he said, Tuesday (5/8/2025).

He also added that the government does not rule out the possibility of blocking games, television broadcasts, and other digital content if it is considered to endanger the mental and morals of the community.

“If we feel we have crossed the line, what is shown there affects the behavior of our younger siblings, then it is possible. If it contains elements of violence, then we will close it, there is no problem.”

Regular evaluation to ensure content security

Prasetyo said that the Palace had communicated with the Ministry of Komdigi to review all games and digital content through regular evaluations.

“Komdigi every day evaluates all TV stations, then social media, to see games, games platforms, these applications to see the extent to which the content contains elements of violence, negative, murder, and so on,” he explained.

This evaluation is expected to be a reference for the government in making the right decisions without disturbing the digital expression space, but still maintaining the psychological safety of the young Indonesians.

Challenges in managing digital content

Restrictions on digital content such as Roblox show the big challenges the government faces in maintaining a balance between free speech and the protection of children. In the growing digital era, it is important for the authorities to ensure that the content available is safe and in accordance with the moral values adopted by the community.

In addition, there is a need for collaboration between the government, educational institutions, and parents in providing education to children about the healthy and wise use of the internet. Thus, children are not only protected from the negative impacts of harmful content, but can also learn to use technology positively.
