Pertamina NRE Uses Artificial Intelligence to Increase PLTS Reliability

Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE), a part of Pertamina’s group of companies that focuses on new and renewable energy, utilizing drone technology and artificial intelligence (AI) in inspection of the solar power plant system (PLTS) in Riau Province. This initiative is a flagship step in the development of PLTS projects in Indonesia.

Complete PLTS examination, focus on early detection

The inspection of the PLTS system has been completed in December 2024 and will continue on a regular basis. The main focus is to check the status of solar modules and detect potential damage that can affect the productivity of solar energy generation from solar energy.

With the help of drones and AI in analyzing the data, the team can detect anomalies or decrease the quality of the system more precisely. This is important as part of a routine maintenance program so that the system remains reliable and efficient.

Collaboration with Terra Drone Indonesia

The technology used is the result of a collaboration between Pertamina NRE and Terra Drone Indonesia. The drone used is the most sophisticated variant, capable of scanning images to identify hot spots and oddities in solar panels accurately and quickly.

The use of drones that can reach large areas in a short time also makes inspection more efficient and safer than traditional methods.

Visual data for quick decisions

The results of the inspection have assisted the Pertamina NRE Technical Team in conducting a comprehensive evaluation of the system performance. The visual data collected provides an accurate picture, enabling fast decision making for system improvement or optimization.

If there is a panel that is experiencing over-temperature or signs of degradation, preventive measures are immediately taken to prevent further damage.

“The use of advanced technology in the form of drones and artificial intelligence to ensure the reliability of the PLTS system is part of our commitment to provide excellent service quality to consumers,” said Project Director & Pertamina NRE operation, Norman Ginting, in an official statement, Thursday (24/4).

Meanwhile, Vice President Corporate Communication of PT Pertamina (Persero), Fadjar Djoko Santoso, emphasized that the development of low-carbon green energy is part of Pertamina’s business strategy. “Pertamina NRE has a big role in the development of green energy, and we appreciate its steps in using artificial intelligence technology,” he said.
