The increasing cyber threat in Indonesia
The data shows that 62% of cyberattacks in Indonesia are related to data burglary. This poses a serious threat to privacy and security of both individuals and institutions. From 2023 to 2024, the manufacturing sector became the main target of cybercriminals, with a contribution of 31% of the total attacks. followed by government agencies and financial companies by 23% each. Elena Grishaeva, Director of Regional Positive Technologies for Southeast Asia, stated that strong cyber resilience is highly dependent on the development of professional talent. According to him, adequate education and training is the key in protecting digital infrastructure.

The aim is to train new cybersecurity specialists and strengthen the national defense system. Research conducted by Positive Technologies shows an alarming fact. About 28% of advertisements on the dark web forum circulating in Southeast Asia are directly related to Indonesia. This means that the name Indonesia often appears in illegal activities in cyberspace. This shows that cyber threats do not only come from outside, but also involve an active role from within their own country.
With the increase in cyber threats, it is important for the government, companies, and the general public to increase awareness of digital security. Training and education must be continuously improved in order to face increasingly sophisticated and complex threats.
