Latest from AMD: Fluid Motion Frames and Radeon RX 7600 XT

POn January 24, AMD will release their latest technology, Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF), a frame generator designed to improve gaming performance. On the same day, the Radeon RX 7600 XT which is the latest VGA from AMD was introduced with a memory capacity of 16 GB. Fluid Motion Frames will be part of the HyPR-RX software package and will also be available as a separate option in the graphics driver.

Advantages of AMD Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF)

One of the key features of AMD Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) technology is its flexibility. This technology does not require support from game developers and theoretically can work natively with every game. However, it should be noted that AFMF requires a dedicated Radeon graphics card.

AMD has integrated AFMF into their Radeon driver preview for some time. As part of the latest update, AFMF is now supported on the Radeon 700M (RDNA 3) integrated graphics of the Ryzen mobile processor. Previously, the company had added AFMF support for the Radeon RX 6000 series card. However, the integrated Radeon 600M (RDNA 2) did not support this technology. The company does not plan to release a new preview version of the Radeon driver with AFMF.

Combination with Radeon Super Resolution (RSR)

Combined with Radeon Super Resolution (RSR) technology, players can activate the Frame Generation feature in the Radeon driver. Unlike AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR), this technology does not require support from game developers. They are implemented at the driver level and should be able to work in most DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 games.

AMD realizes that its AFMF technology has advantages compared to NVIDIA’s Frame Generation technology which has a similar function. The NVIDIA frame generator must be integrated into the game by the developer. In addition, DLSS3 with Frame Generation only works on the GeForce RTX 40 series graphics card.

“We will soon see the situation in which DLSS will only be available in certain game projects. Therefore, NVIDIA will either choose to use our own solution, because this technology is distributed under an open license and can be supported by third parties, or may have to create something similar,” commented Aaron Steinman, senior Product Manager for Radeon, in conversation with PCGamer.

In fact, NVIDIA already has NIS (Nvidia Image Scaling) technology, which is a simple spatial improvement that does not depend on artificial intelligence algorithms. This function is also implemented at the driver level. Although NVIDIA does not promote it as actively as DLSS, this technology already exists.

Conclusion

By releasing Fluid Motion Frames along with the Radeon RX 7600 XT, AMD not only demonstrates their technological innovations, but also provides solutions that are more flexible and easily adopted by the gaming industry. The combination of AFMF with RSR provides a smoother gaming experience without requiring special game integration, giving AMD a significant advantage in the market. As a leader in graphic innovation, AMD continues to take the evolution of gaming technology to the next level.
