Klaten Student Doesn’t Return Iphone 2 Months, Rent Reaches IDR 7 Million

Klaten student rented two iPhones for two months, but never returned them
A student from Klaten who rented two iPhone units from a rental business in Boyolali for approximately two months finally did not return the device. As a result, the rental fee reaches around Rp. 7 million. Although the two units of the iPhone have been successfully taken back, until now the rent has not been paid.
Gery Setiawan (21), the owner of an iPhone rental business in Boyolali, explained that initially the student only rented one iPhone 11 unit with a daily payment system. At first, the payment went smoothly and regularly.
“The payment was early on. He rented for up to two weeks and always on time,” said Gery.
However, after some time, the student returned and decided to rent two units at once, namely the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. He stated that the reason for using two units was for himself and his sister. However, after a few days, the communication between Gery and the student was completely cut off.
“He had said his sister had an accident, but after that it couldn’t be contacted again. All of our numbers were blocked,” added Gery.
iPhone Search and Retrieval
Gery then tried to track the location of the rented device and find it in the Ngemplak area. He went straight to the address. Initially, he looked around and found the position of the device in several areas. Finally, when he found the location in Ngemplak, he went straight there.
Unfortunately, Gery did not meet directly with the tenant. He only met the grandmother and sister of the student, who denied knowing the whereabouts of the iPhone being rented.
iPhone is back, but the rent is still not paid
Although finally the two iPhone units were successfully taken back, Gery still had difficulty in getting the rent that piled up to Rp 7 million. “The reason is tomorrow-tomorrow,” said Gery.
Until now, Gery has not made an official report to the authorities because it is still in the process of collecting evidence. He also suspected that there were other rental service providers who were victims of the same student.
“We have prepared all the evidence and will report with friends who are also victims. Because there may be other victims,” he said.
Gery called the case the worst in the history of the iPhone rental business he had been in since the end of December 2023. Previously, there was a similar case, but the tenant’s family was responsible for compensating the loss. However, this time, the student completely lost track.
other possible victims
Gery hopes to uncover this case in full and provide justice for tenants who may also experience the same thing. He emphasized that he and his colleagues will continue to work to resolve this issue.
“I hope this case can be a lesson for people who want to rent goods without good intentions,” he said.
