On October 14, 2025, the leading technology company, Microsoft, will stop support for the Windows 10 operating system. This means that users who are still using Windows 10 will no longer receive technical assistance, feature updates, or security updates from Microsoft. To maintain the security and efficiency of device use, Microsoft advises Windows 10 users to update their devices to the latest version, namely Windows 11.

How to Update Windows 10 to Windows 11

To perform updates from Windows 10 to Windows 11, make sure your laptop or PC meets the minimum system requirements required. Here are the steps:

1. Click the “Start” icon on your laptop/PC.
2. Select the “Settings” menu, then select the “Update & Security” option.
3. In the “Windows Update” section, click the “Check for Updates” button.
4. If available, a “Windows Update” window will appear indicating that Windows 11 is ready. Click the “Download and Install” button to start the update process.
5. If the update information does not appear, it is likely that your device is not eligible.
6. After the update is complete, the “Software License Terms” window will appear. Click “Accept and Install” to continue.
7. The download and installation process will begin, marked with the progress bar display.
8. After the installation process is complete, you will be asked to restart the device.
9. Restart your laptop/PC to continue the update process.
10. The device will restart automatically several times until the Windows 11 installation process is complete.
11. When finished, the Windows login screen will be displayed. Go to the device to complete the update.

Can Windows 10 still be used?

Although Microsoft support for Windows 10 has ended, devices that still use this operating system can still be used as usual. However, users will no longer get technical assistance, software updates, or security updates from Microsoft.

Microsoft states that a computer with Windows 10 will still work after October 14, 2025, but will no longer receive:

• Technical support of any problem
• Software update
• Security update or fix

Without security updates and continuous software updates, devices still using Windows 10 have a higher risk of virus and malware attacks.

Alternative if you can’t update to Windows 11

If your device does not meet the technical requirements for updates to Windows 11, Microsoft recommends that you register in the Windows 10 Consumer Extended Security Updates (ESU) program. This program provides additional access to security updates for devices that cannot be upgraded to Windows 11.

Another alternative is to replace a Windows 10 laptop/PC with a new device that supports Windows 11. This will ensure the use of a safe and up-to-date operating system.
