SingTel: From 5G to 6G

CEO of SingTel International Digital Services, Anna Yip, explained that the company has invested large in the 5G sector and has now reached the stage it calls 5G+.

“Singtel is very committed to ensuring that the community can fully take advantage of the investment returns,” said Anna.

According to Anna, adoption from the consumer side is very important in encouraging this network revolution, especially in the corporate sector. “I think we all agree, this process starts from adoption by consumers and is currently growing rapidly in Singapore. However, the company still needs to increase adoption,” he said.

Anna also revealed that her party was entering the initial phase of 6G development. “We are developing a project with partners such as SPT from South Korea, to analyze the research potential and utilization of 6G technology,” he explained.

In addition, the SingTel team is also exploring the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), quantum computing, and various other cutting-edge technologies to create optimal applications for the company’s needs.

“The goal is to maximize the potential of technology while paying attention to how 6G will be run in the medium to long term,” he said.

Indosat: 5G Ecosystem Must Be Ready

President Director and CEO of PT Indosat Tbk. (isat), Vikram Sinha, also convey a similar view. He considered that the main challenge in implementing 5G lies not in the readiness of the technology itself, but the readiness of the user company.

“The challenge is not your readiness, but the readiness of the organization where you work. Therefore, this readiness must cover all levels of the organization,” said Vikram.

He highlighted two important things related to the implementation of 5G. first, AI will be the main driver of market growth. According to him, if the service provider is able to develop real-time applications, then monetization of AI will be easier and more useful for consumers.

Second, he stressed that The cost of producing 5G data in Indonesia is now cheaper than 4G, which gives a competitive advantage.

“Personally, I am optimistic, especially with the support of AI,” he said.

Vikram also emphasized that telecommunications operators have a strategic position in the development of AI while maintaining technological sovereignty. As evidence, in the Capital Market Day August 2024, Indosat presented their big vision called North Star: Become an AI-driven telecommunications service provider.

“For the success of AI nationally, the financial condition of telecommunications operators must also be healthy, because they are the foundation of the adoption of this technology by the public and the business sector,” he said.

More than just access

Meanwhile, Chief Innovation Officer Celcomdigi, T. Kugan, emphasizes that the future of the network is not just a matter of access, but a matter of real transformation through collaboration.

“We are in an era where digital transformation cannot run alone. Collaboration and strategic alliances are key to creating more value for customers and businesses,” he said.

In Malaysia, Kugan continued, the government has made digital transformation a national priority. “As a leading service provider, Celcomdigi must be at the forefront of realizing this vision,” he said.
