Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 2nm Coming On Galaxy Z Flip 8, iPhone 17 Pro Equivalent Performance
Samsung managed to create a 2nm chipset for the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5
Samsung has reportedly succeeded in developing a prototype chipset with 2 nanometer (NM) technology which is named Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. If Qualcomm agrees with the test results, the next generation Galaxy Z Flip could be the first device to use Samsung’s own chips. The performance of this chip is claimed to be equivalent and even able to challenge the iPhone 17 Pro.
Reports from the New Daily say that Samsung is currently working hard to catch up with TSMC in global competition in the semiconductor sector. The South Korean manufacturer is said to have sent 2nm chipset samples to Qualcomm for further testing.
If the test results are satisfactory, Qualcomm will most likely switch from TSMC’s 3nm N3P fabrication to the 2nm version of Samsung on the next Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 series. Industrial sources say this opportunity is quite large because Samsung has reportedly succeeded in overcoming the problem of efficiency and hot temperatures which were previously an obstacle in the old generation chipset line.
If all plans go as expected, this new chip can be Samsung’s answer to Apple’s A19 Pro which will be used on the iPhone 17 Pro. The rumor is that the Galaxy Z Flip 8, which is scheduled to be released around July 2026, will be the first folding phone to carry the 2nm version of the 2nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
