Apple develops new AI chatbot technology
Apple is reportedly developing AI chatbot technology which is similar to ChatGPT. This initiative is part of the company’s efforts to strengthen the capabilities of Siri’s virtual assistant and search services in the iPhone ecosystem. This step shows Apple’s commitment to improving the user experience with more sophisticated and integrated solutions.

In the Power On Bulletin, Gurman explained that Apple has formed a special team called Answers, Knowledge, and Information (AKI). This team is tasked with developing the Answers Engine, an answer search engine that is able to respond to user questions by using information from various sources on the internet.
“The team will develop a system that can crawl data from websites to answer knowledge-based questions,” wrote Gurman. This technology is expected not only to be integrated into Siri and Safari, but also potentially give birth to standalone applications specifically designed to provide answers, as offered by ChatGPT.
Development of conversational skills in Siri
In addition, Apple is also testing more sophisticated conversation skills in Siri. However, this update is likely to be present in iOS 27, which is planned to be released in 2026. This is because iOS 26 has just been released this year, so the development and testing process takes quite a long time.
AI Talent Recruitment
The allegations about the development of this technology are getting stronger after Apple opened dozens of new job vacancies in the MMR division since the end of July 2025. The positions opened include Machine Learning Engineers, Software Engineers, to Distinguished Engineers in the US and China. The job description indicates a focus on developing a large-scale language model (LLM) that is able to answer user questions based on personal documents, while still prioritizing data privacy.
Apple has previously announced the ambition to make Siri more personal and contextual. This virtual assistant is targeted to be able to understand the context of the information, adjust the response to the user’s needs, and provide wider control over the application. For example, Siri will be able to display flight schedules or restaurant reservations from information in iMessage and Mail, without the need for manual searches.
