WhatsApp Releases Group Message History Feature, New Members Can Join Live Conversations

WhatsApp Update for Group Users
WhatsApp, the very popular instant messaging platform, has launched another update aimed at group users. This update offers a new feature called Group Message History, which is designed to make it easier for new members to understand the context of previous conversations.
This feature is expected to answer a common need in group conversations, namely how to make new members quickly understand the situation without having to ask for explanations from other members or take screenshots. With Group Message History, new members will immediately receive the latest series of relevant messages.
Sending Last 25–100 Messages
When someone is added to a group, users can choose to send recent conversation history. This option allows sending messages ranging from 25 to a maximum of the last 100 messages. These messages will appear complete with a time stamp and sender’s name. Additionally, these messages are also visually differentiated from regular messages for easy recognition.
With this feature, the process of adapting new members becomes more practical. They no longer need to manually search for messages or ask old members for explanations. Meanwhile, old members will still know what messages are shared with new members.
Security and Privacy are Maintained
WhatsApp emphasizes that the Group Message History feature remains protected by end-to-end encryption, just like other private messages. This means that only the sender and recipient can read the contents of the message, including the history shared. This provides guaranteed security and privacy for all users.
Sending message history is optional. Group admins have full control to disable this setting if necessary. However, admins can still share message history at any time as needed.
Notifications for All Group Members
As part of transparency, all group members will receive notifications when message history is shared with new members. This ensures that all members are aware of any changes or information provided.
Gradual Rollout for Multiple Device Users
The Group Message History feature is starting to be rolled out gradually for users on various devices. WhatsApp calls this update an effort to improve a more efficient group chat experience while maintaining user privacy.
Benefits to Group Conversation Dynamics
With the addition of this feature, the dynamics of group conversations on WhatsApp are expected to be neater and with minimal disruption, especially when new members join in the middle of an ongoing discussion. This feature not only speeds up the adaptation process of new members, but also strengthens communication within the group.
