ChatGPT Claims Superior Human Experts in 44 Jobs, This is Proof!

Openai claims chatgpt is able to compete with human experts in 44 professions

OpenAI announced that their artificial intelligence (AI) model, CHATGPT, is now able to compete with human experts in 44 different professions. This announcement was made along with the launch of a new feature that allows users to purchase products directly from Etsy and Shopify without having to leave the chat interface.

This claim is based on a new benchmark called GDPVal. The benchmark is designed to test AI performance on real work tasks that include nine major industries contributing to the United States Gross Domestic Product (GDP). In this evaluation, the Claude Opus 4.1 Anthropics model actually recorded better results than OpenAI’s GPT-5 High. Claude managed to achieve a win rate and a draw of 47.6%, while GPT-5 High only won 38.8%.

GDPVAL benchmark

GDPVal is considered the most ambitious framework OpenAI has ever carried out to measure the economic value of AI. The model was tested on 1,320 authentic work results from various professions, ranging from software developers, lawyers, nurses, financial advisors, to social workers. Professionals with an average of 14 years of experience are involved in designing these tasks as well as acting as appraisers. They compare the output of AI with the results of human work.

“We finally have a way of measuring how our model works in the real world—not just on academic tests—which is an important way for us to measure progress towards AGI goals,” OpenAI researcher Tejal Patwardhan told Axios.

The test results show a significant increase over time. GPT-4O which was released in the spring of 2024 only recorded a score of 13.7%. GPT-5 managed to increase performance almost three times. OpenAI claims their AI model is capable of completing tasks 100 times faster and 100 times cheaper than human experts.

Instant Checkout feature

In addition to the GDPVal report, OpenAI also launched the “Instant Checkout” feature on Monday. This feature allows chatgpt users in the United States to buy goods directly in conversation. Initially, this feature supports the purchase of one item from the Etsy seller. Furthermore, more than one million Shopify merchants, including Glossier, Skims, and Spanx, will soon join.

This commerce integration uses Agentic Commerce Protocol which was developed by OpenAI with Stripe and has now been open source for wider adoption. Users can search for products with natural language queries such as “Gifts for Ceramic Lovers” and then complete purchases using a credit card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay, without leaving the ChatGPT application.

This announcement triggered a surge in stock prices. Etsy recorded an increase of almost 16% and Shopify increased by more than 6% after the new feature was announced. OpenAI confirms that the fee is only charged to the merchant for every successful transaction. Meanwhile, the user is not subject to an additional fee and the product rating is not affected by the payment status.
