Purchase of tokens IDR 50,000 and IDR 100,000: How many kWh do you get?
Every purchase of electricity tokens will be converted into kilowatt hour (kWh) units. The amount of kWh received by the customer depends on the electrical power (VA) used and the amount of the Street Lighting Tax (PPJ) in each region.
The following is an example of a calculation for the purchase of a token of IDR 50,000 and IDR 100,000:
For the purchase of tokens IDR 50,000:
- 900 VA power:
- Token Price: IDR 50.000
- PPJ 3 percent: IDR 1,500
- Basic Electricity Tariff: IDR 1,352 per kWh
Result: (Rp 50,000 – Rp 1,500) ÷ Rp 1,352 = 35.87 kWh
1,300 VA power:
- Token Price: IDR 50.000
- PPJ 3 percent: IDR 1,500
- Basic Electricity Tariff: IDR 1,444.70 per kWh
Result: (Rp 50,000 – Rp 1,500) ÷ Rp 1,444.70 = 33.57 kWh
2,200 VA power:
- Token Price: IDR 50.000
- PPJ 3 percent: IDR 1,500
- Basic Electricity Tariff: IDR 1,444.70 per kWh
- Result: (Rp 50,000 – Rp 1,500) ÷ Rp 1,444.70 = 33.57 kWh
For the purchase of tokens IDR 100,000:
- 900 VA power:
- Token Price: IDR 100,000
- PPJ 3 percent: IDR 3,000
- Basic Electricity Tariff: IDR 1,352 per kWh
Result: (Rp 100,000 – Rp 3,000) ÷ Rp 1,352 = 71.75 kWh
1,300 VA power:
- Token Price: IDR 100,000
- PPJ 3 percent: IDR 3,000
- Basic Electricity Tariff: IDR 1,444.70 per kWh
Result: (Rp 100,000 – Rp 3,000) ÷ Rp 1,444.70 = 67.14 kWh
2,200 VA power:
- Token Price: IDR 100,000
- PPJ 3 percent: IDR 3,000
- Basic Electricity Tariff: IDR 1,444.70 per kWh
- Result: (Rp 100,000 – Rp 3,000) ÷ Rp 1,444.70 = 67.14 kWh
It should be noted that the amount of KWH received by customers may differ in each region because the amount of PPJ is determined by the Regional Government and is not uniform throughout Indonesia.
No change in tariff
The government ensures that there is no change in electricity tariffs in the first quarter (January–March) 2026, both for subsidized and non-subsidized customers. The tariff determination is carried out by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) based on the Regulation of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Number 7 of 2024 concerning Electricity Tariffs provided by PT PLN. The regulation explains that the electricity tariff is evaluated and can be adjusted every three months or quarterly. In general, tariff adjustment refers to changes in a number of macroeconomic parameters, such as the rupiah exchange rate, Indonesian crude price (ICP), the inflation rate, and the reference coal price (HBA).
