The “Message Request” feature is found in the WhatsApp Beta version for Android 2.25.33.11. With this feature, messages from numbers that have not been saved in the user’s contacts will be automatically redirected to a special folder called “Message Request”. This is very useful for users who often get messages from unknown numbers, especially those that contain promotions or messages that are considered unimportant.

How the message request feature works

The Message Request feature will be integrated directly with a new privacy setting called “Who Can Message Me” (who can send me a message). Users can set who is allowed to send messages through this option. There are two main options in this setting:

• everyone (Everyone): Messages from anyone, including numbers that have not been saved in Contacts, will appear as usual in the Chats tab.
• My Contacts (My contact): Messages from unknown or unsaved numbers in Contacts will not be displayed in the main chat list. The message will be redirected to a special folder called “Message Request”.

In the “Message Request” folder, WhatsApp will display messages sent by an unknown number, complete with details of the sender’s name and profile photo. If the user chooses to reply to the message, the message will automatically move to the main chat tab and appear like a regular chat. However, if the user decides to ignore it, the message remains in the Message Request folder without appearing in the main chat list.

Similarities to Instagram Features

The way the message request feature works on WhatsApp is considered similar to the “Request” feature in the Instagram application. In this case, messages from unfollowed accounts (non-followers) will go to a special folder and not immediately appear in the main mailbox.

When was this feature released?

Although this feature has been found in the Beta version of WhatsApp, it is not known exactly when this feature will be officially released to the public. However, according to a trusted source report, WhatsApp will most likely roll it out in future updates.
