After a few days, communication between Gery and the tenant began to be constrained. Finally, communication was completely cut off. When asked the reason, the student had said that her sister had an accident. However, after that, all the phone numbers contacted by Gery were blocked.
Gery then looked for the whereabouts of the tenant and found him in the Ngemplak area. He conducted a search in several areas until he finally found the location of the tenant. When he came to the location, Gery did not meet the student directly, but with his grandmother and sister. Both denied owning or knowing the whereabouts of the iPhone.
Although the iPhone can finally be returned, the rent that should have been paid has not been received. According to Gery, the total rental arrears reached around Rp. 7 million for two months. “He rented an iPhone for two months. That’s why we took it. Apart from not returning it, he also hasn’t paid. If it’s two months, it’s around Rp. 7 million,” he explained.
The reason for the student is only “tomorrow”. Until now, Gery has not made an official report to the police because he is still collecting evidence. He also said that there may still be other victims from the same tenant. “We have prepared all the evidence and will report with friends who are also victims. Because there may be other victims,” he said.
Gery said this was his worst experience since opening an iPhone rental service at the end of December 2023. Previously, if there was a similar problem, the tenant’s family was always responsible. But this time, the tenant completely lost track. “Previously there was a problem, but the tenant’s family was responsible for replacing it. If now the traces are completely lost,” he said.
