Introduction to the Copilot Action Features in Windows 11

Microsoft has just launched a new feature called Copilot Action which will enrich the Windows 11 user experience. This feature is designed to allow users to operate their devices only by using AI-based voice commands. With this feature, users can run various tasks such as sending emails, opening applications, or managing files automatically without having to touch the screen.

This feature will be available first to users Windows Insider, as part of Microsoft’s efforts to build a new generation AI-based PC ecosystem. This update was launched on Saturday (18/10/2025) and became one of the important innovations in the Windows 11 operating system.

How does Copilot Action work?

Copilot Action is an AI agent capable of controlling the system by sound and navigating it without the need to touch the screen. With this feature, users can talk directly to a desktop PC or laptop running Windows 11 OS to run certain tasks. The task may include interaction with applications, files, or web-based services.

For example, Copilot Action can write and send email replies automatically, or set a folder in the background when prompted by the user. This AI agent is also able to sort out vacation photos or extract information from PDF documents. This allows users to focus more on other things while AI completes the assigned tasks.

During the process, AI agents will provide progress updates in the Copilot app. If needed, this AI will also ask for confirmation from the user before resuming certain tasks.

How to Access the Copilot Action Feature

To access this AI agent, users can open the Copilot application and select the menu Copilot Action. In addition, users can also run it by saying “hey copilot”, without the need for manual access as the initial method.

However, it should be noted that in order to run Copilot Action, the user must first activate the feature. Because, the default Windows 11 settings are set to disable Copilot Action. If you want to activate it, the user can access the menu Settings (Settings) > System > AI components > Agent tool > Experimental agent features.

If you don’t find this feature, it means that the user has not had access to this AI agent.

Launch and development plan

An update containing Copilot Action for Windows 11 will be rolled out to Windows users via Copilot Labs in the near future. Although Microsoft has yet to specify the specific schedule, this feature will be available in the experimental version. The goal is to be further developed and refined by Microsoft after receiving feedback from users.

This AI agent support is part of Microsoft’s efforts to enrich the Windows 11 operating system, especially after Windows 10 officially retired on October 14. This effort is also Microsoft’s way of rebuilding the actual AI PC.

“We feel that the vision we have is, let’s rewrite the entire operating system around AI and build what basically makes PC AI real,” said Yusef Mehdi, Microsoft’s Consumer Chief Marketing Officer.

“One of the big things that comes to our mind is that even though the Copilot Plus PC is the spearhead and gets a quick appeal, the most important thing is, we bring that AI capability to all Windows 11 PCs and make it very easy for anyone to try,” he added.
