Spotify presents AI playlists, music arranged by description

tonguetekno,

JAKARTA — Spotify has again expanded the use of artificial intelligence (AI) on its platform. This music streaming service has officially launched the AI Playlist feature for premium customers in the UK, Ireland, Australia, and Sweden.

Previously, this feature was first tested in New Zealand, then introduced in the United States and Canada.

Through this feature, users can create playlists just by writing a description of the music they want to listen to. No need to look for songs or artists one by one. Simply describe the mood, certain moments, or desired inspiration, and the Spotify AI system will automatically compose it.

How to Use the AI Playlist Feature on Spotify

To use it, the user simply taps on the “Create” menu, then selects “playlist based on the instructions”. After that, enter the description in English. Instructions can be general like music to relax, or more specifically by mentioning eras, genres, activities, lyrics, instruments, even inspiration from movies, TV shows, or personal achievements.

Users can also determine whether the Playlist wants to be filled with new songs or just from the music collection that is already in their library. Once the request is sent, AI Spotify will process it by considering the user’s listening history and current music and cultural trends. The result is a more personal playlist. Interestingly, each song is accompanied by a brief explanation of the reason the song was chosen.

If the results are not according to taste, the user can correct the description or create a new playlist from the beginning. Playlists can also be set to be automatically updated daily or weekly, following the development of the user’s musical tastes.

Because it is still in beta status, Spotify said this feature will continue to be improved based on user input. There are currently also usage restrictions, with some users reporting reaching the limit after about 20 to 30 requests.

In addition to the AI Playlist, Spotify also presents other AI-based features such as Page Match, which allows users to scan physical book pages to go directly to the same section in the audiobook version, as well as About The Song which provides additional information about the song. The platform also updates the lyric feature with global translation support and offline access.

Not only focusing on music, Spotify also expanded the audiobook business by starting to explore physical book sales. In the near future, users in the US and UK will be able to buy printed books directly through the Spotify application.
