Xiaomi 17 Pro in the Spotlight: A Threat to the iPhone?

Competition in the Global Smartphone Market is Heating Again
The growth of the global smartphone industry continues to experience changes, and one thing that is attracting attention is the emergence of the Xiaomi 17 Pro. This device is reportedly capable of shaking Apple’s dominance in the Chinese market and has the potential to influence the global competitive map. With its presence, many observers see the potential for significant changes in market dynamics.
The existence of the Xiaomi 17 Pro worries the Americans
Apple has long been a major player in China’s smartphone market. However, now this position is starting to be shifted by Xiaomi, which has managed to reach the top sales ranking. This worries several parties, especially the United States, because Apple is not only a technology icon but also contributes greatly to the country’s economy.
Some analysts believe that the United States’ actions this time are similar to the Huawei case. When Huawei began to gain global popularity, the American government immediately took restrictive measures that hampered the company’s business. It is feared that a similar condition could occur again if political and economic pressure on Xiaomi becomes stronger.
Different Designs and Innovations
The Xiaomi 17 Pro comes with a striking futuristic design, including a small screen on the back called the dynamic back display. This screen can display notifications, dynamic wallpapers, and function as a camera viewfinder. The large camera module also gives a unique impression to the appearance of the device.
On the other hand, the iPhone 17 Pro has Apple’s typical premium design with a sturdy and thin aluminum body. The widened camera module at the top is a characteristic of the latest generation. In terms of weight, the Xiaomi 17 Pro is lighter, around 192 grams, while the iPhone 17 Pro reaches more than 200 grams.
Camera and Photography Capabilities
Both offer high photographic quality. Daily photos from the Xiaomi 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro are both sharp and natural. However, Xiaomi has an advantage in the zoom sector with a 50 MP telephoto that supports optical zoom up to 5 times, while the iPhone only provides 4 times zoom.
For video, Apple is still seen as the best choice thanks to its stability and natural colors. However, Xiaomi offers other technical advantages, such as the ability to record up to 8K resolution, while the iPhone is still limited to 4K.
Performance and Chipset
Xiaomi 17 Pro is equipped with a chipset Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 which is made with 3 nm fabrication. This performance results in an AnTuTu score of close to 4 million points, making it one of the fastest smartphones currently. Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 Pro uses a chipset Apple A19 Pro with a score of around 2 million points.
In addition, Xiaomi offers a choice of 12 GB to 16 GB RAM with up to 1 TB internal storage. The iPhone excels on the storage side because it provides variants up to 2 TB, although the price of the highest variant is very expensive.
Battery and Charging
Another advantage of Xiaomi lies in battery capacity. The Xiaomi 17 Pro is equipped with a 6,300 mAh battery, while the Pro Max variant even reaches 7,500 mAh. Compare this with the iPhone 17 Pro Max which is still in the 4,800 mAh range.
Regarding charging, Xiaomi is again ahead with 100 watt fast charging and 50 watt wireless charging. The iPhone 17 series still stands at 45 watts for wired and 25 watts for wireless.
Competitive Prices
In terms of price, Xiaomi offers the 17 series with a range starting from IDR 10 million, the Pro version around IDR 11 million, up to the Pro Max at IDR 14 million. Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 series in the Chinese market is priced higher, even the Pro Max variant can reach IDR 23 million. This price difference is what makes many consumers consider Xiaomi to be more “worth it”.
