3 New Instagram Features, Repost TikTok for Reels and Feeds and Track Friends’ Locations

Instagram’s New Features That Increase User Engagement

Instagram continues to innovate to meet users’ needs in accessing and sharing content. Several new features have been introduced to increase interaction between users, including the ability to repost content, share location, and display friends’ favorite content. The following is a complete explanation of these three newest features.

1. Repost feature

The repost feature allows users to repost existing content on Reels or public feeds. This is similar to the feature available on TikTok. With this feature, users can easily share their interests with friends. Reposted content will appear in friends’ and followers’ feeds, and be saved in a separate tab on the user’s profile.

Previously, users only had two options for sharing other people’s content: sharing it on Instagram Stories (which only lasted 24 hours) or collaborating on a post, which required approval from both parties. Now, the repost feature provides a more efficient way to share content without requiring additional permissions.

This feature was launched globally today, although it had previously been tested by Instagram since 2022. This update is also part of Instagram’s strategy to strengthen Reels as one of the platform’s main features.

2. Location Sharing Feature

Instagram also launched a location sharing feature similar to Snapchat. Users can choose to share their active location with specific friends, or turn it off at any time. This feature also allows users to view content uploaded by their friends and favorite creators from certain locations.

Several control options are available to users:
– Choose who can see your location, such as friends, close friends, or just a few people.
– Disable location sharing in certain places or with certain people.
– The location will be updated every time the app is opened or returned from the background.
– Parents can set up monitoring for teens, including monitoring whether their kids share their location and with whom.

The Instagram map is available at the top of the DM inbox. This feature is rolling out in the US today and will be available globally soon.

3. “Friends” tab in Reels

Instagram is also introducing a new tab called “Friends” in Reels. This tab allows users to see public content their friends have interacted with, or recommendations from Blends they’ve started. With this feature, users can easily start conversations about content they like.

To access the “Friends” tab, simply tap the “Friends” icon at the top of the Reels. To return to the regular Reels feed, tap the “Reels” tab again. Users can also control what is displayed in this tab, such as hiding their own likes and comments on Reels, or disabling activity bubbles from certain people.

With these new features, Instagram further strengthens its function as a social media platform that not only provides content, but also facilitates interactions and connections between users. This reflects Instagram’s efforts to answer the needs of today’s users who want to stay connected in a fun and efficient way.
