Goodbye Windows 10! Microsoft Stops Support Starting Today

The Windows 10 operating system has officially entered the end of end of support starting Tuesday (14/10/2025). However, some users in various new regions will receive notification as of Wednesday (15/10). Microsoft no longer provides security updates, new features, or technical assistance for users of the operating system that was first released in 2015.

Through its official website, Microsoft explained, devices that are still running Windows 10 can still be used, but their security and performance will be more vulnerable. “After October 14, 2025, PCs running Windows 10 will still work, but will no longer receive security updates or bug fixes,” Microsoft wrote in its official announcement.

Microsoft claims, this condition makes the device potentially more susceptible to viruses, malware, or performance disruptions, especially for users who are still connected to the internet.

There is still a chance to extend a year

Although the official support is discontinued, Microsoft still provides the last chance for users through the Extended Security Updates (ESU) program. This program allows Windows 10 devices to still receive security updates for an additional year, until October 2026. For individual users, ESU can be activated for free by signing up using a Microsoft account. Meanwhile, companies and institutions can purchase renewal packages for up to three years.

The Fate of Microsoft Office in Windows 10

The expiration of Windows 10 support also had an impact on older versions of Microsoft Office. Here is an explanation of the support status for various versions:

• Office 2016 and 2019: Support is stopped completely on all operating systems.
• Office 2021 and LTSC 2021: still runs on Windows 10, but no longer gets technical support.
• Office 2024 and LTSC 2024: Still usable, but will not be officially supported.

It is recommended to immediately switch to Windows 11

Microsoft recommends users to switch to Windows 11 either by performing free updates on eligible devices or purchasing a new PC that supports the operating system. “To stay protected and get the best experience, we recommend users upgrade their devices to Windows 11,” Microsoft wrote.

Windows 11 is said to offer regular security updates, long-term support, and AI Copilot integration which is the main focus of Microsoft’s latest operating system development. Meanwhile, for users who are still surviving in Windows 10, the company reminded to be more aware of cyber threats and routinely back up important data.
