West Java Provincial Government’s Explanation Regarding Data Leak Claims

The West Java (Jabar) Provincial Government has provided an official statement regarding information circulating on social media regarding the leak of personal data of West Java residents. This claim was made by an anonymous account called DigitalGhostt, which claimed to have leaked data from 4.6 million West Java residents via the Darkforums site.

In his statement, West Java Kadiskominfo Adi Komar stated that the results of the search and validation carried out by his party showed that the claim was not true. He emphasized that the information circulating did not match the existing facts.

“We confirm that the claim of a data leak managed by the West Java Provincial Government is not true,” said Adi Komar in his statement. He also emphasized that the West Java Provincial Government remains committed to maintaining the security of government data and the public’s personal data.

West Java Provincial Government’s Efforts to Strengthen Data Security

To ensure data security, the West Java Provincial Government has taken several strategic steps. One of them is strengthening information security technology. Previously, an account with the name ‘DigitalGhostt’ on the social media platform X claimed to have hacked and controlled the personal data of 4.6 million West Java residents. In its upload on July 10 2025 at 16.33 WIB, the account wrote a quote in English that questioned Indonesia’s cyber security in protecting its citizens’ data.

“Hello Indonesian people (especially the people of West Java), could your personal data be in my possession? Where is the cyber defense? Is it asleep on a pile of money?” (Meaning: Hello Indonesian people (especially West Javanese people), is it possible that your personal data is in my hands? Where is the cyber defense? Is it sleeping on a pile of money?)

The tweet was accompanied by a screenshot from a dark web forum containing a data offering with the label “4.6 million data of West Java Indonesian citizens [DATABASE]”.
