ESDM: AI Reduce Costs and Increase Security in Mining

Lidahtekno, Jakarta — The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) considers that artificial intelligence (AI) technology now plays an important role in improving efficiency and sustainability in the Indonesian mining sector.
Secretary of the Directorate General of Mineral and Coal (Ditjen Minerba), Siti Sumilah Rita Susilawati, said that industry players are starting to realize the potential of AI in reducing operational costs while creating mining operations that are more environmentally friendly.
“Artificial intelligence or artificial intelligence, as previously mentioned, can now be easily seen by everyone here how much influence it has on increasing efficiency,” said Rita after attending the event Indonesia AI Day for Mining Industry 2025 on Thursday (4/24/2025).
Rita admits that in the early stages of AI implementation, significant investment and careful management are needed. However, he is optimistic that the benefits of the investment will be felt by industry players in the long term.
“Now it seems that almost all mining, especially large-scale, has started to think about how to implement technology,” he continued.
Amman: AI Encourages Productivity and Security in the Mining Industry
At the same location, PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara (AMMAN) said that AI technology has a significant impact in increasing efficiency, productivity, and work safety in the mining environment.
AMMAN President Director, Rachmat Makkasau, stated that the company has started digital transformation, including the integration of AI into various operational aspects.
“Artificial intelligence (AI) can be a trigger to improve efficiency and productivity in operations, and maintain work security,” said Rachmat.
However, Rachmat emphasized that the implementation of AI cannot be done instantly. Challenges such as data integration from various systems, the readiness of digital infrastructure, and adaptation of the workforce require gradual stages and continuous education.
“The learning process cannot be instant,” he said.
He also stated that Amman is committed to ensuring digital transformation is not only focused on technology, but also on developing human resource capacity.
“AI can act as a support, not to replace the workforce,” he said, emphasized the importance of the role of humans in data-based decision making.
