Changes to the National Examination System with Academic Ability Test (TKA)
The government through the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) has taken important steps in overhauling the National Examination (UN) system. Since 2025, the UN will be replaced with an Academic Ability Test (TKA), which will be officially enforced in November 2025. Initially, the application of foreign workers only applies to high school students and equivalent.
According to a statement from the Head of the Center for Curriculum and Learning of the Curriculum Standards and Education Assessment Agency of the Ministry of Education, Laksmi Dewi, TKA is a form of academic evaluation that is more focused and relevant to the current educational needs. He explained that the national exam was no longer there, and his successor was the foreign worker which will be held in November.
Subjects tested
The rules regarding foreign workers have been regulated in Permendikdasmen Number 9 of 2025. The following is a list of subjects tested in foreign workers:
For SD/MI/Program Package A/equivalent and SMP/MTs/Package Program B/equivalent:
– Indonesian
– Math
For SMA/MA/Program Package C/equivalent and SMK/MAK:
– Math
– English
– Indonesian

The provisions regarding elective subjects will be further stipulated in the Guidelines for the Implementation of TKA. This provides flexibility for schools and students in choosing subjects that suit their respective interests and talents.
