Spooring inspection can actually be done at home without the need for special tools, as long as you know which part to pay attention to. By doing a simple check, you can identify whether the condition of the car tires is out of alignment or needs adjustment.

According to Hariyanto Septiadi, the person in charge of the Jaya Tire workshop in Cibeunying, Bandung, the most visible sign of the condition of the car tires is the misalignment of the wheels. This can be an early indication that the car spooring needs to be checked further.

“If the tire tread is uneven, for example, the inside or outside is thinner, it’s usually because the angle of the wheel has changed,” explained Hariyanto. He added that the driver can also conduct a short road test on a straight road to find out the symptoms of spooring.

“Try to take off the steering wheel for a while at a moderate speed. If the car turns itself to the right or left, it’s a sign that the spooring has deviated,” he said.

In addition, the driver is also advised to pay attention to the taste of the steering wheel when driving. If the steering wheel feels heavy, vibrates at a certain speed, or does not return straight after turning, most likely the steering system needs to be reset.

Another characteristic that can be observed is the position of the wheel when the car is parked in a flat place. If one of the wheels looks tilted in or out, it is certain that the angle of the wheel is no longer parallel.

Drivers can also pay attention to the stability of the car on bumpy or potholed roads. If the car feels wobbly, unstable, or “stragged”, you should immediately do spooring at the workshop.

Some things to consider in the spooring test include:

• The stability of the car on the road is uneven
  
  Observe whether the car feels wobbly or unstable when passing through bumpy or potholed roads. If it occurs, immediately perform a spooring check in the workshop.

In addition to the front wheels, the alignment of the rear tires is also important to check, because it can affect the direction of the vehicle’s overall speed. By paying attention to some of these signs, the driver can be more aware of the condition of his vehicle and take immediate action if needed.
