Toyota introduces Urban Cruiser and locally produced BZ4X at GIIAS 2025

Toyota’s commitment to developing the national automotive industry
PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM) has again shown its commitment to the development of the national automotive industry. This can be seen from the introduction of their new electric car at the opening of the 2025 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) at ICE BSD City, Tangerang. This exhibition is an important moment for Toyota to introduce various innovations and the latest products that will be present in the Indonesian market.
In his remarks, the President Director of TAM, Hiroyuki Ueda, said that Toyota is ready to present future mobility solutions through the launch of two new electric SUVs, namely the Toyota Urban Cruiser and Toyota BZ4X, which will be produced locally in Indonesia. In addition, Toyota also introduced a luxury sedan, the Toyota Crown FCEV Hydrogen, which is part of the company’s strategy in strengthening the national automotive industry.
The introduction of Urban Cruiser and BZ4X local production is an important step in Toyota’s efforts to increase public access to electric cars. With these models, Toyota is committed to supporting the transition to a cleaner and more sustainable environment.
Toyota already has five manufacturing facilities in Indonesia, which has helped the company record the export of more than 3 million vehicles by 2025. This makes it one of the main players in national automotive exports.
“Toyota has been present in Indonesia for more than half a century. During that time, we have continued to strengthen the structure of the domestic industry, which currently involves more than 350 thousand local workers, including up to the level of suppliers Tier 2 and 3,” said Ueda.
In addition to focusing on electric cars, Toyota also confirmed its contribution to the Carbon Neutral initiative by providing a wide selection of electrification vehicles. Starting from hybrid vehicles to pure electric vehicles (battery electric vehicles (BEV), Toyota provides various alternatives to consumers.
In the hybrid segment, Toyota recorded a market share of up to 59 percent, making it a market leader in the category of environmentally friendly vehicles. This shows that people are increasingly aware of the importance of sustainability in driving.
“Through the Urban Cruiser and BZ4X, we open wider public access to electric cars, while supporting the transition to a cleaner and more sustainable environment,” added Ueda.
In the GIIAS 2025 exhibition, Toyota brought a variety of product lines, including electric vehicles and high performance. The flagship models of the Gazoo Racing line are also displayed as a symbol of the spirit of “fun to drive” and technological innovations that continue to develop with the times.
“We believe that cars are not only means of transportation, but also part of self-expression and actualization. Therefore, today we present not only electrification vehicles, but also sports cars from the Gazoo Racing line to meet various lifestyles of Indonesian customers,” concluded Ueda.
