Chery Announces Battery With 1,300 Km Reach Period Once Charged

Solid battery innovation that is changing China
Chinese automotive manufacturer Chery has announced success in developing its first all-solid-state battery prototype. This announcement was made at the Chery Global Innovation Conference which was held on October 18, 2025. In the event, Chery introduced a battery module with an energy density of 600 Wh/kg, one of the largest in the Chinese automotive industry.
This battery is designed to remain stable in a variety of extreme conditions, including safety tests such as prickling nails and drilling with drills. As a result, no fire or puff of smoke occurred, indicating a very good level of security.

Chery has a long-term plan to develop this solid battery. They planned the pilot operation phase in 2026, before launching more widely in the market by 2027. If successful, Chery has the potential to become a leader in solid battery innovation compared to competitors such as BYD and CATL who are also targeting similar production in the same year.
This innovation is supported by Chery’s strong financial performance. In the first half of 2025, the company’s revenue increased by 26.3 percent to 141.6 billion yuan (around Rp 318,600 trillion). In addition, the export of cherry vehicles in September reached 137,624 units.
After conducting an Initial Public Offering (IPO) in Hong Kong, Chery allocated 35 percent of the funds obtained for research and development of vehicles, and another 25 percent for next-generation technology. This allocation shows the importance of solid battery projects in the company’s long-term strategic plan.
Competition in the solid battery market
Even though Chery is growing, they are not alone in this competition. Toyota, for example, has just announced a partnership with Sumitomo Metal Mining to accelerate the production of their solid battery cathode material. This shows that competition in the dense battery market is getting tougher.
Based on the projection of EVTANK, global solid battery delivery is predicted to soar to 614 GWh by 2030. The market value of solid batteries is estimated to reach 250 billion yuan (approximately Rp 562,500 trillion). However, the main challenge faced is the production cost which is currently estimated to be 2.8 times more expensive than conventional lithium-ion batteries.

Although there are still challenges, the progress shown by Chery and research institutions such as Tsinghua University gives great hope. With this innovation, electric cars with longer mileage and higher security are getting closer to reality.
