Development of Electric Vehicles with a Swap Battery System

After completing trials of the E01 electric motorbike with a fixed battery system in four cities in 2023, Yamaha is now entering the study stage of using electric vehicles with a swap battery system. In the announcement, the model that was the focus of the study was the Yamaha Neo’s, a modern electric scooter that was previously marketed in Europe and Vietnam.

For the Indonesian market, PT Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing (YIMM) has just announced that they are reviewing the possibility of using Neo’s as an online motorcycle taxi fleet. This shows the company’s commitment to continuing to develop environmentally friendly transportation solutions.

Modern Design with a Distinctive Scooter Touch

In terms of appearance, the Yamaha Neo’s comes with a rounded, urban scooter-style design. The headlights are shaped like a pair of eyes with LED technology, while the rear lights are designed separately from the main body to give a futuristic impression.

In terms of dimensions, this scooter is relatively compact with a length of 1,875 mm, a width of 695 mm, a height of 1,120 mm, and a seat height of 795 mm. The wheelbase reaches 1,305 mm, the ground clearance is 148 mm, and the total weight is only 98 kg (including battery). This design is very suitable for use in dense urban conditions.

Performance and Range

In terms of power, the Yamaha Neo’s is equipped with a second generation YIPU electric motor which is air-cooled. The power produced is equivalent to 2.3 kW or around 3 hp, with maximum torque reaching 138.3 Nm.

As a power source, this scooter uses a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 51.1V 23.2Ah. Yamaha states that this scooter can cover a distance of up to 72 km at a constant speed of 30 km/hour with a rider weighing 75 kg. Full battery charging time takes about 8 hours.

Modern Features for Daily Needs

Yamaha Neo’s is equipped with a number of the latest features that support the needs of users in urban areas. The digital instrument panel provides complete information, there are two riding modes (STD and ECO), as well as the Y-Connect connectivity system which allows riders to monitor motorbike data via smartphone.

Apart from that, this electric motorbike is equipped with a smart key system (keyless), charging sockets for devices, and LED lights throughout the lighting system. The selling price starts from 50 million VND or the equivalent of IDR 32.8 million.
