Compare! BYD surpassed Tesla as the best-selling electric car in Indonesia: ATTO, Dolphin, and M6 prices since April 2025

BYD has positioned itself as the best-selling electric car manufacturer globally, surpassing Tesla’s main competitor. Below is the price comparison between BYD SEAL, ATTO 3, DOLPHIN, SEALION 7, DENZA, and M6 which are valid until April 2025 compared to models from Tesla.

According to a report from Kompas.com, BYD has managed to maintain its position as the most sold electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer or electric vehicle (EV) worldwide, passing Tesla for the second time in a row in two consecutive quarters.

According to sales data announced by Counterpoint Research and reported by Carnewschina, in the first quarter of 2025 (January to March), BYD managed to sell 416,399 electric vehicles. This figure exceeds Tesla’s sales at 336,681 units.

This took place after BYD achieved new achievements in the fourth quarter of 2024, when they delivered as many as 595,413 units of electric vehicles, exceeding the number of Tesla which was only 495,570 units.

In the fourth quarter of 2023, BYD’s electric vehicle sales managed to exceed Tesla for the first time, where BYD reached sales of 595,413 units while Tesla only won 484,507 units.

However, this trend changed in the next quarter, where Tesla managed to slightly ahead of BYD in terms of sales throughout the year. At that time, the Chinese company reached 1,764,992 units for the whole 2024, while Tesla earned a total of 1,789,226 units.

According to Associate Director Counterpoint Liz Lee, BYD is expected to pass Tesla to become the world’s number one battery-based electric car brand by 2025, with a global market share of 15.7 percent.

“This important point in history shows the aggressive expansion of BYD which is supported by its leadership power in the field of technology and its production process that is vertically integrated,” he added.

The main reason behind BYD’s progress is the very fast launch of the battery charging system, which provides a major increase in the performance of electric vehicles fueled by the battery (BEV).

This system is designed with a 1,000V voltage electrical system, using a rechargeable battery at a speed of 10C, adopting a power processor from Silicon Carbide, and applying the company’s blade battery technology.

However, Tesla is currently facing a number of obstacles in various lines. The political views that have caused polemics from Tesla’s chief executive officer, Elon Musk, have caused a sharp response in several regions, causing their sales to decline in the US and Europe in early 2025.

“This is an extraordinary opportunity for BYD, and if they are able to achieve their commitment to fast charging, this can be a reversal of fate for BYD and the story of electric vehicles from China in the international arena,” explained Lee.

BYD Vehicle Prices in March 2025

Not long ago, BYD released their newest model, the BYD Sealion 7 at the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) 2025 exhibition.

BYD Sealion has two types, namely premium and performance, which are sold at prices starting from Rp. 629 million to Rp. 719 million OTR Jakarta.

BYD Sealion 7 has a similar look, although not overall identical to BYD SEAL. The difference is that the seal is a type of sedan while sealion 7 is included in the category of crossover or SUV.

One similarity can be found on the front. The main light resembles the design of the seal. However, the Sealion 7 looks more modern and elegant thanks to the Double-U Floating Headlight.
