This is the reason why your car’s engine pulls so slow: cleaning this component is needed

Your used car feels slow when you enter high gear? Don’t rush to blame the machine first, it could be that the cause is in one dirty component: throttle body, or commonly called TB.

The throttle body is a vital component that regulates how much air enters the engine combustion chamber. Its function is similar to an air gate, and the valve is controlled by a sensor named Throttle Position Sensor (TPS).

How can it be dirty, huh?

Because it is located close to the combustion chamber and is always traversed by air, the throttle body is very vulnerable to being dirty. Fine dust that manages to escape the air filter will stick to the throttle body wall over time.

As a result? The air flow is not smooth, and the engine response is also disturbed.

“If the throttle body is left dirty, this can have an impact on the performance of the car and interfere with the reading of the surrounding sensors,” he said. Rendi Kristiya Darmawan, head mechanic Nawilis Radio Workshop Dalam, South Jakarta.

the sensor can be messed up

Dirty throttle body is also at risk of causing TPS sensors or other sensors to read inaccurate data.

“In some cases, the signal from the sensor can be disrupted, and this clearly has an impact on the overall performance of the engine,” explained David of Elika Automotive Performance Workshop, Sunter Automotive Exchange, North Jakarta.

For example, the engine feels sluggish, the gas response is slow, or fuel consumption becomes wasteful. All of that can start from a throttle body that is rarely cleaned.

When should it be cleaned?

It is recommended to clean the throttle body regularly, especially every time you cover a distance 10,000 km, or faster if the car is often used on dusty or jammed roads.

Conclusion

The throttle body may not be a component that is often glimpsed, but its role is very important. If you feel the car’s performance is decreasing or the pull feels heavy, don’t hesitate to check and clean this part.

A little maintenance can make your used car still prime and economical, guys!
