Electric Car Battery Price: Wuling Air EV vs Toyota Innova Zenix

The price of electrification car batteries is still high, but there is a solution in the future

The price of the battery in the electrification car, both hybrid and pure electricity, is still quite expensive. This is due to the important role of the battery in moving the vehicle. In hybrid cars, the battery serves to help gasoline engines to be more efficient in using fuel while reducing exhaust emissions. While in pure electric cars, the battery is the main source of power that completely replaces the conventional engine.

According to Ko Lung Lung, CEO of Doctor Mobil Indonesia, the cost of replacing the battery in hybrid cars and pure electricity is still very high. He gave an example of the battery price on the Toyota Innova Zenix Hybrid, which is currently around Rp. 68 million. However, the price only covers the cost of the battery itself, not including the installation fee. “If the battery is a hybrid car, currently for the Innova Zenix it is around Rp. 68 million, it’s not the same as the installation fee, then the battery is only,” he said.

In developed countries, the aftermarket battery version is already available in the market. With this alternative battery, the price can be cheaper than the original battery. “Only the battery in America already has an aftermarket,” said Ko Lung Lung.

The Toyota Innova Zenix Hybrid uses a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 1.3 kWh. This battery works with a gasoline engine with a capacity of 2,000 cc and an electric motor, resulting in a combined power of 183 hp. Although it has a relatively small capacity, this battery remains a vital component in maintaining vehicle efficiency and performance.

As for pure electric cars, the price of the battery can be even more expensive. Ko Lung Lung gave an example of Wuling Air EV, one of the affordable electric cars in Indonesia. He said that the battery price in this model could reach a third of the selling price of the car. “The cost of replacing electric car batteries is expensive. The battery is only if Wuling Air EV is at Rp. 100 million today,” he said.

Wuling Air EV is equipped with a lithium-ion phosphate (LifePO4) battery with a capacity of 26.7 kWh. This battery is capable of providing a mileage of about 300 kilometers in a full charge. Although the price is high, this battery is the main component in supporting the performance of electric cars.

According to Ko Lung Lung, in the future there will most likely appear alternative batteries that can be used as spare parts. This will provide a cheaper option for owners of pure electric cars. In addition, the development of battery technology is also expected to reduce production costs and increase energy use efficiency.

With the increasing number of electric cars on the market, the demand for affordable and long-lasting batteries will increase. Vehicle manufacturers and spare parts suppliers must continue to innovate to meet these needs. On the other hand, users also need to pay attention to battery maintenance in order to last longer and reduce replacement costs in the future.
