The official Instagram account from Padjadjaran University (Unpad) was raided by an unknown individual on Saturday, April 5, 2025. Promo “High Discount” Antam Precious Metal Products.
This theft was first noticed by the Unpad Public Relations Team at 14:00 WIB. At that time, there was a post on the Instagram account @universitaspadjadjaran that offered Antam gold weighing 25 grams at a free price of Rp. 10 million to celebrate “10th Birthday”.
On the shipment, supporters are directed to press the like on the post and contact the phone number that is included for the ordering process.
“Antam Gold weighing 25 grams is only worth Rp. 10 million because there are donors who free this prize for loyal followers, and the funds that have been collected will be sent to Palestine,” he explained in the post.
The post received great attention from the public because the promise of a very excessive reward and broadcast through the official channel of a leading university. This fraudulent act was even exacerbated by a second similar upload, increasingly supporting fraud in its fraudulent schemes, including social stories and contact information to place orders.
Confirmation from Unpad: “Our Instagram Accounts Stolen”
Responding to the inconsistency, the Head of Public Relations of Unpad, Dandi Supriadi, issued an affirmation stating that their official account had actually been the target of hackers’ attacks.
“That’s not true, my Instagram account was hacked,” he said on Saturday, April 5, 2025.
Dandi Supriadi stated that the IT of Padjadjaran University immediately took action to recover the account that had been infiltrated.
“It’s being updated,” he said.
However, until 17.25 WIB, the fake post was still visible on Unpad’s Instagram account. It was noted that according to observations made until Sunday, April 6, 2025 at 9:30 WIB, the incorrect submission still appeared on the Instagram page of Padjadjaran University.
Dandi said that the search for the hackers had already begun. Although the post was deleted, they warned that there was a possibility that the attacker could upload more similar material until the account was completely recovered.
As a precaution, Unpad warned the public that the post was false information. Users are requested not to respond to the ad and avoid contact with the number mentioned.
Old style with fresh look
This data leak incident is not the first case involving the name Unpad. Earlier, in March, Unpad had experienced the same thing when its name was tarnished in a fake job fraud scheme.
The ongoing advertisement with the theme “Open Recruitment of Padjadjaran University for Permanent Lecturers Non-Civil Servants” offers a salary of IDR 5-20 million per month, workplaces in several areas, as well as bonuses and insurance. The bottom of this ad includes a registration form that requires applicants to provide personal information such as name, address, and Telegram application number.
Unpad has informed about the account that spread the fraud to Instagram starting in October 2024. Even though the account has been made, fake news is still popping up through other new accounts, making it even more complicated to handle legally.
It is now difficult for us to report to the authorities in an efficient way because the identity of the perpetrator continues to change,” said Dandi. For this reason, Unpad tends to take an educational approach and public announcements as the main effort to resist the pace of adding new victims.
Information about the fraud has also been announced through the official social media platforms of Unpad, WhatsApp groups, and mass media, which reflect the institution’s commitment to maintaining the safety of public information.
Be careful of digital deception techniques targeting official agencies
The event is an important warning about the spike in cyber crime methods targeting official bodies as the starting point for their operations. The public is advised to remain careful with suspicious data or very enchanting offers, especially if the source is an organizational profile that generally does not provide this type of promotion.
If you find dubious material with the name of an educational institution or the government, the public is expected to immediately verify directly via an official channel and not use the contact number in the post.
Public Relations Unpad emphasized that its official Instagram account is only used to inform news about campuses and aspects of education. They do not carry out promotional programs or sales of commercial goods, such as precious metals.
