Bali Taxis Must Use Electric Cars

Changes to Electric Vehicles in Bali

Bali is undergoing a major transformation in the public transport system, especially for taxi fleets. This process is carried out as part of an effort to create a public transportation ecosystem that is more environmentally friendly and sustainable.

The Head of the Bali Provincial Transportation Service, I Kadek Mudarta, explained that the transition to electric vehicles is part of the Regional Action Plan for the Acceleration of the Use of Battery-Based Electric Motor Vehicles (KBLBB) which is valid until 2026. This plan is based on the mandate of Bali Governor Regulation Number 48 of 2019 concerning the Use of Electric Motorized Vehicles battery based.

Taxi Fleet Electrification Strategy

One of the main strategies in accelerating the use of electric vehicles is through the electrification of the taxi fleet. This is done by changing the oil-fueled vehicle with a battery-based electric motorized vehicle gradually. This replacement is carried out according to the age of the vehicle and the company’s business plan or taxi cooperative.

Mudarta said that his party encourages all rejuvenation of taxi fleets operating in the province of Bali to use battery-based electric motorized vehicles starting January 1, 2026. This is stated in the Letter of the Bali Provincial Transportation Service Number: b.16.000/2162/akt.jalan/dishub regarding the affirmation of the use of electric vehicles for taxis.

Taxi quota and inaccurate information

Based on a study conducted in 2015, the number of taxi quotas in Bali is 3,500 units. The Bali Provincial Government has never issued an additional quota outside the amount determined based on the results of the study.

However, the information circulating through social media and stated that there had been an addition of 3,000 to 10,000 new electric taxis in Bali was not true. Mudarta emphasized that every new business entity that is interested in running a taxi transportation business must cooperate with a taxi transportation company that has operated and has an operating permit. This is done in accordance with the official quota that has been set.

sustainability and the interests of the community

In addition, his party also ensures that every implementation of taxi transportation in Bali Province runs in an orderly, measurable, and favors the interests of the Balinese people. The Bali Provincial Government also encourages the empowerment of local community resources and workers in this process.

With these steps, Bali seeks to create a cleaner, more efficient and environmentally friendly transportation system. This transition process not only helps reduce air pollution, but also has a positive impact on the welfare of society and environmental sustainability.
