Intel Nova Lake: A New Shift in the CPU World

Intel doesn’t seem to stop bringing innovation in their processor line. Although the Core Ultra 200s Plus has attracted the attention of fans, now the main focus is on the next generation known as Nova Lake. The latest leak revealed that this CPU will be the new \”Monster\”, both in terms of the number of cores and the cached technology used.

Core is getting crazier, cache is leveling up

From the previous report, Nova Lake is said to come in two main variants with a dual compute module design:
* 52 cores and 42 cores, each equipped with 288MB BLLC (Big Last Level Cache)
* For single module version, available:
* 28 cores and 24 cores, with 144MB BLLC

This cache of this size is in the spotlight because for the first time Intel is really serious about challenging AMD, especially the Ryzen X3D line which is famous for 3D V-Cache technology.

NEW UPDATE: 42 core variant rose to 44 cores

Interestingly, the latest leak mentions that Intel made a revision. The 42-core variant is now upgraded to 44 cores. Although the official details have not been revealed, the previous configuration is estimated to consist of:
* 14 P-Core (Performance)
* 24 e-core (efficiency)
* 4 LPE-Core (Low Power Efficiency)

In the old setup, there is one full module (8P + 12E) and one module \”trimmed\” (6p + 12e), aka there are 2 P-core disabled. Well, with an upgrade to 44 cores, it’s likely that Intel is now using two full modules (8P + 12E) without any cores being cut. The result? performance is clearly more maximal.

Nova Lake Configuration Details

Based on the leaks circulating, the following is an overview of Nova Lake’s lineup:
* 52 cores: 2x (8P + 16E) + 4 LPE
* 44 cores: 2x (8P + 12E) + 4 LPE
* 28 cores: (8P + 16E) + 4 LPE
* 24 cores: (8P + 12E) + 4 LPE

LPE Core: Useful or just a formality?

All variants are said to still include 4 LPE cores as standard. Its function is to handle light loads with low power consumption—the concept adopted from the Panther Lake. But on the other hand, this decision is somewhat questionable. The reason is, for the desktop segment, power efficiency is not a top priority like in a laptop. So, does this LPE Core really feel the benefits? Still a question mark.

BLLC vs 3D V-Cache: Duel Cache Technology

The most interesting thing is the cache approach. Unlike AMD which adds cache stacking (3D V-Cache), Intel chooses a different path via BLLC which is integrated directly into the chip. The advantage? lower latency potential. Disadvantages? Production costs and yields can be more challenging.

Ready to enter the new era of “Core War”

With a spike in the number of cores and super large caches, Nova Lake clearly marks a new chapter in the CPU competition. Intel is not only pursuing the number of cores, but also trying to close the gap in gaming performance and heavy workload which has been the strength of AMD X3D. If this leak is accurate, one thing is for sure: “Core War” in the CPU world will get hotter—and users who will benefit.
