WhatsApp Calls Can Be Scheduled, Indonesia Joins in Enjoying New Features

New features of WhatsApp: Schedule phone calls and video calls

WhatsApp is now adding a new feature that allows users to schedule phone calls and video calls. This feature was officially released on Thursday (14/8/2025) and became one of the biggest improvements in the communication experience through the instant messaging application.

This feature is very useful for users who often hold virtual meetings, such as work meetings or family gatherings. With the ability to plan schedules, users can more easily manage their time and invite people who want to join. This makes WhatsApp more similar to online meeting applications such as Zoom.

How to Access Call Schedule Features

To use this feature, users only need to open the Call tab on WhatsApp. There, there is a “+” (plus) button which can be clicked to select the “Schedule Call” option. After that, the user will be given the option to specify the call title, date, time from start to end, and type of call (voice or video).

Users can also choose not to set a final deadline if they want to schedule a call indefinitely. In addition, users can create invitation links, type contact numbers, or add new contacts to the invitation list.

Invitation and invitation process

Once the schedule is created, the user can send an invitation to a contact or group. When the invitation is received, the invited party will receive a notification and an invitation link in their chat. They can choose to join, delay, or refuse to participate.

When you click on the invitation link, invited users will see three response options: join, maybe, or not. If they choose “Join”, they will go straight into the call room. However, if the call owner hasn’t opened the space, the user will see the caption “Waiting for other users”.

Differences with Other Apps

One of the main differences between this feature and apps like Zoom is the way the user activates the camera or sound. On WhatsApp, the option to turn off the camera or sound only appears after the user joins the call. While in Zoom, users can disable the camera before joining.

However, this feature remains an important step in improving the WhatsApp user experience. It’s possible, in the future, WhatsApp will add the option to disable the camera before joining.

Additional Features: Virtual Hand Lift

In addition to the call schedule feature, WhatsApp also launched additional features to increase interaction in group calls. One of them is the “Virtual Hand” option. Users can press the hand symbol to indicate that they want to speak.

In addition, WhatsApp also added some new emoji as an alternative to show expression during the call. This is perfect for users who don’t want to show faces directly.

security and privacy

WhatsApp confirms that all scheduled voice and video calls remain protected by end-to-end encryption systems. This provides a sense of security for users, especially when communicating in a business or family environment.

With these new features, WhatsApp further strengthens its position as a complete and modern instant messaging application. Users now have more options to communicate effectively and efficiently.
