This is the surprising original material of the Yamaha Gear Ultima cylinder head cover: not metal!

Generally, components such as cylinder head cover The motor uses metal-based materials, especially aluminum. But Yamaha actually took a different approach to Gear Ultima 125 Hybrid. Instead of using metal, they choose resin material—which may seem like plastic, but it has far superior technical characteristics.
This was expressed by Ferry Nurul Fajar, representatives from the Engineering and Education Division Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing (YIMM) During the media discussion, Yamaha Flagship Shop Semarang, Wednesday (9/4/2025).

“The ultima gear cylinder head cap will be made using resin material,” explained Ferry.
Not ordinary plastic
At first glance it looks like plastic, but Ferry emphasizes that the material used is not just any plastic.
“The resin material used has undergone special processing and has a special mixture, so that its strength can match or even exceed light metals,” he added.
Why use resin?
According to Ferry, at least there is Three main reasons Why Yamaha chooses resin material for these important components:
lighter
The use of resin can cut the overall weight of the motor, which of course has an impact on efficiency and driving comfort.Reduces vibration (vibration)
Resin is able to dampen vibration better than metal. This will increase comfort and extend the life of the related components.Good thermal conductivity
Interestingly, the resin used also has the ability to conduct heat well, so it doesn’t interfere with the engine cooling system.
This is not the first time Yamaha uses resin
Ferry also mentioned that Gear Ultima is not the only model that uses resin material for the cylinder head cover. This technology has been applied previously in the model Fazzio, Grand Filano, and even Gear 125 previous generation.
“So actually this is nothing new for Yamaha, it’s just that now it is starting to be expanded to more product lines,” concluded Ferry.
Yamaha seems to be getting serious about implementing light and efficient innovations in its products. We’ll just have to wait and see what the performance and durability of this resin component is on the streets of Indonesia in the future.
