Get to know the experience of driving a Polytron G3+ electric car

Simple but attractive design

When you hear the name Polytron, maybe what comes to mind is household electronic products such as refrigerators, TVs, or speakers. But now, the company also owns an electric car called the Polytron G3+. The OTO editorial team had the opportunity to try this car directly in various driving conditions, ranging from congestion in the city to driving on the toll road.

By design, the Polytron G3+ looks simple as an electric car. does not offer a futuristic style like most other electric vehicles. The front is equipped with large lights with an LED projector cluster in it. At the bottom, there is a fairly large grille, in contrast to most EVs which usually have a plain face without air grilles.

In addition, the feel of the SUV is increasingly felt because of the black over fender accent that surrounds the body and roof rails on the roof. The 20-inch alloy rim is the center of attention because of its large enough size for an SUV. The rear sector is also unique, with red dimples as a rear fog light to increase visibility during bad weather. Above it, there is an elongated lamp complete with an emblem that reads Polytron which is lit both day and night.

Spacious and comfortable cabin space

The Polytron G3+ is the result of a collaboration with a Chinese car manufacturer named Skyworth. So do not be surprised if the dimensions and the whole look similar. This car has a total length of 4,750 mm, a width of 1,910 mm, a height of 1,710 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,800 mm. The size is bigger than the Honda CR-V. Although the photo looks concise, the original is wide, so it offers a spacious cabin. Height 178 cm is still free to sit in the second row. The atmosphere is brighter and wider thanks to the presence of a panoramic sunroof.

The seats and a number of panels in the interior have been wrapped in a soft leather material, making the user feel comfortable. The entertainment system is centered on the 12.8-inch head unit screen with the operating system from Coocaa which is connected to premium audio made by Polytron XBR. The instrument panel adopts full digital with a large screen that displays information during driving, such as Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), media information, speed, and charging status. Unfortunately, the driver has to choose between displaying the remaining battery mileage or nominal percentage, can not both at the same time.

The rest, the interior of the Polytron G3+ is enough to support the needs of daily mobility, by highlighting the premium side of the dashboard soft touch material, ambient light, and a touch of wood panel accents.

Fun driving experience

The pleasure of driving a car begins with a driving position. The Polytron G3+ has been equipped with electric chair arrangements for the right and left front seats. In addition, the steering wheel can also be adjusted tilt (up/down) and telescopic (forward/backward), making it easy to find an ergonomic position. However, for a height of 178 cm, we feel the steering wheel is a little less close to the body, but it is still suitable for drivers with the average posture of Indonesians.

The transmission lever adopts a rotary knob model that is practical to operate. When driving, the distribution of power is fairly smooth for the stop and go scenario. Even so, his acceleration ability is not kidding, he is equipped with a 150 kW (201 hp) drive motor and a peak torque of 320 Nm.

Centralized energy storage in a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery with a capacity of 51.9 kWh with a mileage of 402 km. The charging capability is quite fast, our testing shows from 13-100 percent complete in about 90 minutes. Meanwhile, from 20-80 percent it was completed with a duration of about 45 minutes using 50 kW fast charging DC.

Comfort during the trip is supported by MacPherson’s independent suspension system at the front and multi-link independent at the rear. The result? It’s quite comfortable when you meet a bumpy road contour without any excess reflection. He is also stable at high speed, only a little unsteady when cornering aggressively.
