At the 2025 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS), Daihatsu launched the Rocky Hybrid which attracted public attention. This model has the same platform as the Toyota Raize, thus sparking the question of whether Raize will also be present in a hybrid version.
PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) responded to this issue by conveying their views on the development of electrification technology in Indonesia. Philardi Ogi, Head of Public Relations of TAM, assesses the presence of the Rocky Hybrid as a positive sign for the development of hybrid cars in the compact SUV segment which has a wide market share.
“We see this development as a positive thing. This means that electrification technology in Indonesia has now begun to enter a segment with a wider market.
Although not providing direct confirmation of the Raize Hybrid plan, Toyota hinted that their electrification strategy was in progress. Ogi explained that Toyota is currently developing a hybrid model in a wider segment, but for the specific model, further information cannot be provided.
“Just wait, yes,” he added.
Focus on sales and development of hybrid models
Meanwhile, regarding the strategy between Toyota and Daihatsu in responding to electrification, Ogi was reluctant to comment further. He only emphasized that the majority of Toyota’s sales in Indonesia are still dominated by the 7-seater model, which affects their future development focus.
“This is also reflected in the high acceptance of the Kijang Innova Zenix HEV, which is one of the important references for us in developing hybrid models in the future,” he said.
Raize is currently available in two conventional engine options, namely 1.0L turbo and 1.2L naturally aspirated. Toyota assesses the two engines are quite efficient in its class. However, with the growing trend of electrification, the potential for future hybrid raize remains open.
Veloz Hybrid also appears as a new option
On the other hand, the signal of the appearance of the Veloz hybrid is getting stronger. The W102RE code leading to the hybrid model has been registered with the DKI Jakarta Samsat. Type 1.5 Q HV CVT and 1.5 Q HV CVT TSS are believed to be a hybrid variant of Veloz.
Different from the W101RE code used for conventional engine models, this code indicates a new development. The Veloz Hybrid is predicted to use a 1,500 cc Atkinson Cycle engine such as the Yaris Cross Hybrid, equipped with an 80 PS electric motor and 141 Nm of torque, as well as a 0.7 kWh lithium-ion battery.
Regarding the price, the Veloz Hybrid is predicted to remain competitive, especially if it gets a 3 percent PPnBM incentive for hybrid cars that apply in Indonesia.
