Why is axle oil much thicker than engine oil?



“The axle oil is made thicker because of the difference in workload and the type of lubrication,” explained Andy, the owner of the Honda Clinic workshop in East Jakarta.

“The axle oil lubrication focuses on high friction pressure loads. Therefore, a stronger lubrication is needed to prevent the wear of components in the transmission system,” he added.

In addition, axle oil lubrication does not require an oil pump. On the other hand, oil only relies on splashes or splashes of the components in the axle.

The axle also does not have a cooling system. Therefore, thicker oil tends to be more stable and does not run diluted quickly when the temperature increases due to long trips.

Axle oil can be used for about 30,000 to 40,000 kilometers, or can be changed every 2 years.
