Jam Jar Technology in Oil Packaging
Shell Indonesia Lubricants Technical Team Leader, Shofawatuzzakki, explained that the company has implemented a multi-layered security system on their oil packaging. One of the main features is Jam Jar, which is a special label found on the oil bottle cap. The label contains: QR Codes which can be used to validate the authenticity of the oil.
“By scanning the QR Code, consumers can find out whether the oil is genuine and also see how many times the product has been scanned,” explained Shofawatuzzakki. This system is connected directly to Shell’s official website, so consumers can confirm product authenticity just via their mobile phone.
Additional Features on Jam Jar
Apart from the QR Code, Jam Jar technology is also equipped with additional features that can help consumers identify the authenticity of the oil. “If we pour water on the hologram on the label, the hologram will change color,” he continued. This is a simple way to ensure that the oil you buy is genuine.
Strengthening Distribution Chains
Not only focusing on packaging, Shell Indonesia is also tightening the distribution chain so that its lubricant products are not misused by irresponsible parties. With tighter distribution, the company ensures that only authorized outlets receive and sell genuine Shell products.
The Importance of Buying from Official Channels
Vice President Marketing Lubricants Shell Indonesia, Kartika Pelapory, emphasized the importance of buying oil through official channels. According to him, Shell has many partners who have been verified as official sellers. One of these partners is Shell Autocare, which is a verified brand.
“To ensure authenticity, buy oil at Shell Autocare or at official stores such as e-commerce or the authorized TikTok Shop. You can also buy oil directly at Shell gas stations where the stock is guaranteed to be complete and original,” said Kartika.
